Yet another hot and hectic day under a burning Italian sun.
Even from the neutralised zone we had some excitement with Thomas Gloag breaking his cleat and having to swap shoes, plus get back into the peloton holding onto a motorbike before the race started officially.
With some hard climbing towards the end of the stage, the plan was to conserve energy and go all in to win the stage, with Ben Turner coming close in 7th place (Ben pictued above at the start line in the multi-coloured jersey). Thomas Gloag finished just behind to stay right in the hunt for GC.
Unfortunately, Ben Healy got unstuck in the heat and lost a couple of minutes, time he will hope to take back in the time trial.
On to Stage 3 from Cesenatico and 132km of punchy climbs.
