Stage 1 of the Baby Giro proved to be a typical chaotic first day of racing under the Italian sun.
After a fast start, a break managed to establish itself and things settled down in the bunch. Unfortunately two of our team, Ollie and Luke, really suffered in the heat and were working hard to hang on, but they did manage to survive. Ben and Thomas saved their legs in the bunch to save energy for their GC tilt later in the race.
It was Ben Turner who really impressed, setting off after the breakaway with 30km left to race, closing a 3 minute gap to near 30 seconds by the end where he managed to finish a very impressive 6th place. Greats signs that the legs are there.
